After building his own turf roof house in 1995, John Little has built over 45 green roofed buildings and the Grass Roof Company has become known for these individually designed, innovative smallscale structures. The users range from nature reserves, to primary schools, and to private domestic clients. Habitat walls have always been a part of these constructions, and John has delivered a large variety of bespoke wall habitats.
John shares his knowledge through courses run by greenrooftraining with Dusty Gedge. Courses range from small scale, do-it-yourself roofs, to 2 day courses on ecosystem services, green roofs and green walls. Training is typically for small scale builders, landscape/garden contractors and designers, nature conservationists, DIY enthusiasts, gardeners and horticulturalists.
John has also co-authored a practical DIY guide for small scale green-roofed buildings, for amateurs, contractors, & community groups John has co-written ‘Small Green Roofs: Low-Tech Options for Homeowners‘ with Nigel Dunnett, Dusty Gedge, & Ed Snodgrass, published by Timberpress, 2011.
